Multi-step forms — also referred to as progressive forms — are two or more forms linked together that are often used in place of one long form to make the form fill-out process less daunting and increase conversions.
For example, if you have a registration form or survey that requires your visitors to fill out more than a few fields, you can break it up into smaller chunks and improve their experience, which increases the likelihood that they will complete and submit the form.

Steps

To create multi-step forms and to be sure that all information is sorted in the same contact record, follow the steps below:

  • Go to the form settings of your first form and, in the “Send contacts here” section, select your second page or Ontraport form lightbox.
  • Save and publish your page or form.
  • Go to the form settings of your second form and select “Override email address merge with cookie data” under the advanced settings.
    1. Checking this box allows the information you collect on the second form to be added to the same contact record as the first form.
    2. Be sure that this option is not selected on the first form. If it is, you will end up with two contacts, and their information will not be merged into one record — unless you used a PURL
  • Save and publish your page or form.
  • If you have more than two pages or forms, be sure that you select “Override email address merge with cookie data” on all following forms.
  • Test your multi-step forms by filling out your form with test contact data and checking the contact record to be sure that all information went into the same record.
