Hey everyone, welcome to the Automation Club. My name is Ben, and today we're going to be building an Anniversary of First Purchase automation using Ontraport's Automation Builder. This is really going to help you greatly in making your customers feel special by celebrating a milestone with them, and that's obviously going to generate more sales for you. Let's hop in and get started.

If this is the first time you're seeing an automation map with an Ontraport platform, it's totally okay. We'll get you all sorted out.

This is what the editor looks like and, generally speaking, clients will start at the top of the automation at restart. They get triggered onto these automation maps with a trigger element. A trigger element appears at the top and acts like an if-then statement. So, if a contact performs a specific action or meets some sort of criteria, they'll get triggered onto this map. In this case, we want product purchase with a condition that this is a first-time buyer and their first purchase date is blank. If they purchase a product for the first time and their first purchase date is blank, they get put onto this map.

We want to update that first purchase date to today! So we know that that's a first-time buyer and today was their first time buying. They get put onto this Wait, and a Wait element separates them into two actions on the map. In this case, updating the contact and then sending them an email. Because this is an Anniversary of First Purchase automation, we want this Wait to be for 365 days, essentially one year after their first purchase date was updated.

Then we send them an email which contains a thank you for being a customer for a year. You can send a coupon code for additional incentives for continuing purchasing from you or anything like that. Basically you want to make them feel special for being with you for a year. So that was the Anniversary of First Purchase automation.
