Hey everyone, welcome to the Automation Club. My name is Ben, and today we're going to be building an increased Event Show-up rate automation using Ontraport's Automation Builder. This is going to help you greatly in generating excitement and buzz around your event and keeping your event top of mind with your leads. Let's hop in and get started.

If this is the first time you're seeing an automation map in Ontraport’s platform, that's totally okay, and we'll get you all sorted out.

This is what the editor looks like and, generally speaking, contacts will start at the top and they'll work their way down.

They always start by getting triggered. They're triggered onto the map by a trigger element, and that's what you see at the top here. Essentially, a trigger element acts like an if-then statement. If a contact performs a specific action or meets some sort of criteria, they'll be added to the map up here at the top. In this case, for the event show-up rate, the trigger is an applied tag.

A tag is essentially a label that you can put onto a contact that differentiates it from one contact to another. In this case, the tag is being applied after they sign up for your event ⏤ an in-person event or an online virtual webinar or something like that. So once that tag is applied, they get added here and then you can send them an email like a confirmation email saying thank you for signing up and get ready to get more notifications about it once the event is drawing near.

Then we have a wait element. A wait element allows you to wait between different other elements. So, in this case, we have a wait element to wait for one week before the event. That separates it from the confirmation email and another email that will get sent saying we'll be back with additional information pertaining to the event. You can give recommendations on places to eat if they're coming to a new city or other detailed stuff about the event that you're holding. Then we wait again for another point of time closer to the event, say like one day before. You want to keep it top of mind and you want to keep these people updated with your event details. Here you can send another email with further details and parking locations. You can also, if you'd like, send an SMS which is a different marketing channel if they don't happen to be opening your emails. Just know that you will need prior consent to send an SMS message to contacts. And then, again, the whole point of this is to increase show-up rates.

So on the day of the event, two hours before the event, you can send another email saying that you're super excited to see them and the Zoom link again for the webinar. You can also reach them via SMS straight to their phone. Right before, you can say to people at a physical event, “We're all ready. We're in the waiting room. Come on over to the hall.”

Or anything like that, just some more information, getting them hyped. It's right before the event or just a gentle reminder of, “Hey the event is in 15 minutes. Get to your computer.” That kind of thing.

And again, you can send that via email or SMS to reach them. It's always nice a day after the event to send an email that thanks them for coming to the event and provides any of the replays or resources available to them that they could have gotten at the event or the webinar.
