Hey everyone. Welcome to the Automation Club. My name is Ben, and today we're going to be building an Email Validation Request automation using Ontraport's Automation Builder. This is really going to help you greatly in ultimately ensuring that your email list is engaged. Let's hop in and get started.

If this is the first time you're seeing an automation map within Ontraport’s platform, that's okay. We'll get you all sorted out.

So, this is what the editor looks like and, generally speaking, contacts will start at the top of this map and then work their way down. They get put onto this map via a trigger element which acts like an if-then statement.

If a contact performs a specific action or meets some sort of designated criteria, they'll be placed on this map. In this case the action that we're wanting them to take is submitting a form. Generally, contacts will submit a form, and they'll end up in your database. You want to make sure that it's a real email address, so they fill out a form, they get added here, and you send them an email asking them to validate that email by clicking a link. Then we have a Wait. That Wait element is a way to designate between different actions on the map.

In this case, we're waiting between the email step and them clicking the link. That's where this goal comes into play. The goal is the action we want them to take, clicking that link to validate. Once they click the link, they get brought down. Then we want to update their record that they are validated. One way to do that is updating a checkbox in their record, or you can even tag them. A tag is kind of like a label that you can put onto different contacts. It differentiates them from others, in this case you want to mark this person as email validated. Then, if you'd like, you can send them another email, either thanking them or confirming with them that their email has been validated.
