Hey everyone, welcome to the Automation Club. My name is Ben, and today we're going to be building a Managed Failed Payments automation using Ontraport's Automation Builder. This is really going to benefit you in recapturing those lost sales that are stuck in collections. Let's hop in and get started.
If this is your first time seeing an automation map within the entrepreneur platform, no worries, we'll get you all sorted out.
So, this is what the editor looks like and, generally speaking, contacts will start at the top of this map, and they'll work their way down. People get put onto this map via a trigger element, and a trigger element kind of acts like an if-then statement. So, if a contact performs a specific action or meets some sort of criteria, then they'll be placed onto this map. In this case, we're looking for a failed payment, so when the credit card is charged and declined, they'll be put onto this map. Then we have a wait element, and this wait element is a way to separate two different actions on a map. In this case, one action is the trigger, and the next action is recharging the failed transaction. Just to double check to make sure that it didn’t fail for some weird reason, we'd recharge it and try it again to see if it goes through. If it doesn't go through, wait another 15 minutes just to let things process, then we add a tag to that contact.
A tag is a way to label contacts that differentiates them from one person to the next. In this case, we want to label this contact as a failed payment, and then we'll send them an email kindly asking them to update their credit card, letting them know there was a failed payment. We have another wait for one day, allowing them to perform that action, and we'll automatically recharge that transaction. We'll wait for 15 minutes, allowing things to process. If it failed again, we'll send them another email saying, "Hey, still not working. Please fill out your card details again."
And then we wait. We don't want to pester them over and over. We allow them to wait as much time as needed to charge or update their cards so we can charge them again. And then we have a goal element down here. A goal element on these maps is the action we want them to take. In this case, we sent them two emails asking them to update their card. When they've updated their card and the transactions are successful, they get pulled down here. If they update it on that first email, they won't get the second one. And we'll change their tag, and we'll remove that failed payment tag.
So that was the Managed Failed Payments automation. You can get that entire automation, including all the templated assets like the emails and landing pages preloaded into an Ontraport account by clicking the button below. And if you already have an Ontraport account, click that same button and all the assets will be automatically downloaded into your existing account.
Thanks for watching. Hope to see you again next time.
