Ontraport does, well, a lot of things. But sometimes there's a super specific type of functionality you'd love to be able to connect to your Ontraport account. The good news is that in most cases, you can make that happen. Zapier is a powerful integrator tool that acts like a bridge between Ontraport and other applications. Using Zapier allows you to easily integrate with over five thousand applications and leverage Ontraport's powerful automation tools without any code required. I'll give you an overview of how Zapier works, show you the general setup, and tell you about some of our most popular use cases.
First, let's go over how Zapier connects your apps and services. You can automate repetitive tasks without coding or relying on developers to build the integration through what they call a Zap. Zapier's triggers work just like Ontraport's triggers. They wait for contacts to perform a specific action or fit specific criteria, then kick off the Zap.
To create your own Zap from scratch, you just need to answer a few questions. First, which to integrate? This is your paired app. For For example, I wanna integrate Slack with my Ontraport account.
Second, what action do you want to kick off your integration?
This is your trigger. For example, I want my integration to fire when someone submits my demo form in Ontraport. Finally, what do you want to happen when your Zap fires? This is your action.
For example, I want to notify my team with a Slack message when a lead submits my demo form. Alright. Here's how we recommend setting up your Zaps. The Ontraport integration page shows you popular Zap templates, but you can click the create Zap button from your dashboard if you'd like.
Search for the app you want to connect to Ontraport, like this. When you select your paired app from the drop down, you'll be sent to this integration page. Click Connect These Apps to to go to your Zap editor.
Or click on one of the templates from the create your first workflow section.
Going back to the Ontraport integration page, you can also try out any of these popular templates. For example, create Ontraport contacts from new Squarespace form submissions is right here.
Zapier templates come with triggers and actions preselected for you, but if you're starting from scratch, here's how you set them up. I'll go to the Slack and Ontraport integration page and click connect these apps. Then I'll click on my trigger here. I want my Zap to start with an Ontraport action, so leave Ontraport selected here. In the event dropdown, I'll select new form submission and click continue.
From whatever integration page you're on, click sign in next to connect Ontraport.
Add your API key and app ID to Zapier. To generate an API key and app ID in Ontraport, open up a separate tab and log in to Ontraport. Create an API key and app ID by going to the profile icon, then administration, then integrations.
Click Ontraport API instructions and key manager.
Click new API key. Name it, select a contact owner on the drop down, then click save. Copy and paste your new app ID and API key into Zapier to finish signing in. Done.
That was the hard part, but it wasn't so bad, right? Click continue to finish customizing the trigger. In the form drop down, I'll select my demo request form. Click continue to move on to testing.
Now I'm looking at the most recent contact who submitted this form and I'll click continue with the selected record to use this record as the example data for my Zap. And with that, your trigger is done. Let's move on to the action. In the event drop down, select the send channel message option, then click continue. Sign in to your Slack account and click continue.
Here's where you can customize the action. In this case, I'll select the sales channel. In the message text field, I'll add the message I want to send. Notice that I can add contact info by clicking on these options in the insert data drop down. Then I'll name the bot demo alert and click continue.
You'll see other fields to fill in. In this case, the only required fields are the channel and the message. And here's the testing step again. You want to see if your action works as expected.
Next, you'll see if Zapier successfully performed the action step for you. Alright. We've breezed through that. To finish things off, I'll give you a few examples of use cases you can accomplish with Zapier just to get your creative juices flowing.
When a non Ontraport form is filled out, you can pass the contact information to Ontraport to keep your CRM up to date.
Or when you receive a new response to a Facebook lead ad, you can push the contact information to Ontraport.
When a transaction is logged in Ontraport, you can send purchase information to your shipping and fulfillment center to ship the product.
Maybe you host webinars.
When contacts register for your webinar using WebinarJam, you can add them to Ontraport or update their contact record. And one last cool thing, you can use webhooks to connect other apps. You can trigger Zaps from webhooks, send webhooks in Zaps, and even use code in your Zaps. This gives you a ton of flexibility with automation and is a great option if Zapier's default triggers and actions don't support the automation you want to set up. You can learn more about using webhooks on Zapier's site. Zapier's website is your best bet if you're interested in learning more about Zaps.
