Now that you’ve got your program settings all dialed in, it’s time to sign up some partners!

This is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is go to a contact in your account, go to the “Referral Info” tab, find the partner program field and select a program.

And that’s it! That partner is now eligible to earn commissions.

You can update partners manually like this or use the “change field’” group action or you can add partners using an automation.

At Ontraport, with our own partner program we automatically assign everyone to a program as soon as they become a customer. But you might want to do it differently. Maybe you want people to sign up to be part of your program.

Ontraport has an automation template that’ll let you do just that. You can grab it from the Marketplace and launch it in minutes.

I’ll show you how to set this up in four simple steps. You’ll:

  1. Open the automation template.
  2. Configure the settings,
  3. Publish your automation, and
  4. Edit your pages.

To open the automation template, go to “Automations” and click “New Campaign.”

Search for “Partner” and find the “Partner signup welcome and thanks” automation, and click on that guy.

Click “Continue” to install the automation and the assets.

When the automation is finished downloading, you’ll get the automation itself, plus several new creative assets: an email message, and three pages that include a signup form, a thank you page for your form, and a bonus page that you can link people to from the thank you page or the welcome email.

Now, let’s configure the settings.

You have two tiny changes to make to this automation map.

Click on the “Update Contact” element.

The “Update the field” should be set to “Partner Program.”

In the dropdown below that, select the partner program you created.

Next, delete the “Give WP Membership Access” element. That’s for getting your partners access to a partner center, but we’ll deal with that in a later video. So, delete for now.

Now that that’s done, let’s edit our welcome email.

Where it says ‘“ADD PROMO LINK MERGE FIELD,” we’re going to do something tricky.

You can create promo tools later if you want, but there’s an easy way to make partner links on the fly. All you need to do is type in the URL that you want your partners to send their friends to, and then at the end of the URL, type ?ref=[Page//Contact ID]

This is going to merge each partner’s Contact ID into that URL… and since their affiliate tracking ID is their contact ID, this is going to work perfectly.

If you have more than one link you want to partners to send traffic to, you can go ahead and add another. For example, maybe you have different products, or take care of people with different sorts of problems, so giving your partners different resources is a great idea.

The only thing you need to be aware of is that any URL you’re having partners send traffic to needs to have your Ontraport tracking script on it and you need to be using Ontraport forms. Those are the tools we use to make all the tracking magic happen.

Ok, save your email and return to the automation.

Then, it’s time to publish your automation!

The last thing you’ll need to do is Edit your pages so they match your brand and the text reflects your offer. But you already know how to edit pages, so I won’t go over that now.

After you’ve done that, you just need to share this signup page with your prospective partners and it’s game on!

Great! Now you know how to add people to your partner program. Let’s keep going! If you’re ready to start having partners refer you to others, make sure to watch the rest of the videos in this Partners series.
