Products are, well, the things you sell and they’re really easy to set up in Ontraport. In this video, I’ll give you a brief tour of your Products collection and show you have to add products so you can sell them. There are actually two places in Ontraport where you can add products, so I’ll show you both.

First let’s look at your Products collection. Go to Sales, and then Products. If you’ve been watching our other lessons, this screen should look really familiar by now. It’s similar to your Contacts collection, or Pages, or Messages or any other collection – but this one has your products in it.

From here you can see info like the quantity purchased and revenue generated. You can also create products from this screen.

Click add New Product. Add your product’s public name. That’s whatever name you want your customers to see on your order forms and invoices.

Right here, add the price for your product. This is just a default price; you’re not locked in if there are different prices you’d like to charge in different situations. You’re able to change it on each order form or when you create a manual order.

After you add the price, you have the option of adding an internal name for your product. This name won’t be displayed to your customers. You can also add a SKU if you want, which is usually used to organize things in your accounting software later. Then click Save.

That’s really all there is to it.

The other place to add a new product is right on the order form that you’ll use to take payment online.  So, let’s go see how that’s done.

First we’ll open a Page that has an order form on it. To learn how to set this up, we have another video called Creating an Order form, which we’ll link below this video.

Click on the order summer and you’ll see this “Add/Edit Product” link.

Click “Add Product” and you’ll get to the product grid where you can set up all the details of your order form.

You can add products you’ve already set up from this dropdown – see, I can grab the turtle multivitamins. Or click “Add New Product” from the top of the dropdown. Put your product’s name here. I’ll add “Cone of Shame.”

Hit “Save and Edit” to go to your product settings that we saw a minute ago. Or click “Save as Draft” to save a product with a specific name and add it to your order form. You can always go back to your Product collection to add in the rest of your info about this product. In other words, you can edit your product details from either inside your Product collection or right here from the order form.

As I mentioned, while you do enter a price when creating a new product, it’s not a hard and fast price. You can edit the price of a product any time you use it on an order form, or in a manual transaction.

So let’s say you regularly sell access to your vet membership site for $100 per month, but you want to create a special order form to allow turtle owner clients to sign up for $80 a month. You know, so you can build up your turtle client base.  You’d use the exact same product but you’d edit the price on your turtle owner discount order form, like this.

So that’s really all there is to adding products in Ontraport.

We just covered the different ways you can create a new product and how to add that product to your order forms – critical parts of selling products online!

Coming up, I’ll talk about a great way to increase your average order value – order bumps!
