Courses

This app is a built-in learning management system. If you offer courses, you can launch your site in no time. It makes it easy to publish and protect your own course. With this app, you can:

  • Display your course on a beautiful homepage
  • Plug your course content into lesson templates to easily publish
  • Protect your content behind a membership site
  • Manage your members’ access and login details automatically
  • Encourage engagement with comment section
  • Sell access to your course with a prebuilt sales page
How it works

The app comes with a sales page, a membership site, a home page to display your lessons, lesson page templates, and an automation to handle membership access. Each course you set up can have many lessons housed within it.

Update your order form with your course or lesson product and pricing information, then make the page live. When your customers fill out the order form to buy your course, they’ll receive a welcome email prompting them to log in for the course. If customers try to access the course site and they’re not logged in, they’ll be redirected to a No Access page prompting them to log in or purchase the product to gain access.

The automation grants access to customers who successfully purchase the product and then delivers the welcome email. Your customers can view the course content through their membership site access and can comment on the lesson pages.

How to use and customize your system

Step 1: Get familiar with your course app!

  • There are two example contacts you can use to interact with your site.
    • Your administrator example contact login information is: siteadmin@example.com | password123.
    • Your site member example contact login information is: sitemember@example.com | password123.
  • Copy the URL for your course’s home page from your Courses app system. Paste it onto your browser and log in to your site to check it out! Try logging in as both an administrator and a site member. You'll notice example courses and lessons in there. Once you see how your course looks, it’s easy to customize it to match your brand using the steps below.

Step 2: Add your courses and lessons content!

  • Click here to go to the Courses collection. This is where all the information about your courses gets stored and displayed on your course page. Click on the name of one of the example courses such as “How to Write the Ultimate Offer Funnel” to edit the content.
    • Click VIEW DETAILS and replace the copy in the fields with information about your own course.
      • In the COURSE INFO section, change the course name, short course description, long course description, main image, time to complete, what you’ll learn, and course objectives. Check “Featured courses” if you want this course to be displayed as a featured course on your home page.
      • In the INSTRUCTOR INFORMATION section, replace the instructor description and image with your own.
      • In the COURSE PAGE SEO SETTINGS section, update those fields to align with your course.
      • In the LESSONS section, you can either replace the content in the existing lessons with your own or create a new lesson from scratch.
        • Click on “Introduction” to edit the first example lesson. Edit the fields with your own lesson information.
        • Edit the other example lessons with your own information. If you don’t have as many lessons as you see in the example course, unpublish the lesson pages you don’t need.
        • You can always add more lessons later.

Step 3: Add your payment gateway to Ontraport if you haven’t done so already. If yours is already set up, skip to Step 4.

  • Navigate to SalesSettingsGateways, then click +New Gateway.
  • Follow the instructions here for your specific integration.

Step 4: Click here to go to your courses app system. Next, you’ll customize the pages in the LANDING PAGES section.

  • Click on “Courses: Order” to customize the order form.
    • Edit the example product with your own product’s information.
      • Edit the Public Name to something you want your page visitors to see and edit the price to align with your product.
      • Internal Name and SKU are optional fields.
    • Add a payment gateway by clicking +ADD and selecting your gateway.
    • Optional: Collect sales tax on your form by following these instructions.
    • Optional: Create a coupon code that you can provide to your leads.
    • Click SAVE and PUBLISH when you are finished.
  • Click on “Courses” to edit the copy.
    • Scroll down to the testimonials block. Click on the gear icon to edit the example testimonials with your own.
    • Change any other copy on the page that doesn’t align with your brand.
    • Note: You do not need to edit the copy under “Courses and training” and “More courses” – that will be dynamically pulled from the course information you entered in Step 2.
    • Click SAVE and PUBLISH when you are finished.

You’re ready to send members to your course!

Tips
  • If you prefer, you can build your course from scratch rather than replacing the content in the example courses. Go to the Courses collection here and click + New Course to get started.
  • Allow users to upvote or favorite courses by adding reactions.
  • When you choose a record in your preview settings, make sure you’ve chosen a record that has values saved for the fields you use. If there isn’t a value saved in the record, your preview will appear blank and your page won’t look the way you intended it to look.
  • If you don’t love the color palette, customize it to fit your branding. Learn more about editing pages here.
  • If you haven’t already done so, you can update the global blocks on your pages. These are header/footer blocks that get repeated on many pages of your account.
