How it works

After your leads click on the “Free download” call-to-action button on your website, they’ll give you their first name and email address on the provided form. Once the form is submitted, they’ll receive an email with a link to download the ebook they asked for. If they don’t open the email or click the link to download your lead magnet within a day, they’ll receive another email reminding them to download it.

On the thank you page that displays after they sign up, they will select which of three pain points most applies to them. They will see one of three pages based on what they select. Those three pages are your opportunity to offer them valuable content (such as a video) and a call to action (to buy one of your products/services) tailored to that specific pain point. Your content should pitch your product or service as the solution to that problem.

In addition to the lead magnet delivery email, they’ll receive three emails (three days apart) containing information about their selected problem. After receiving all three emails, they’ll begin receiving a new sequence of emails based on the stay-in-touch drip email campaign. If leads don’t interact with your content (watch a video or click a link in your emails), the pace of emails they receive will slow. (Learn more about that system here.)

Those who buy one of your products/services will not continue to receive any of your pain point pitch emails.

How to use and customize your system

Step 1: Write the content for your lead magnet ebook. Save it as a pdf.

Step 2: Click here to go to the Lead magnet & conversion booster system.

Step 3: In the FILES section, click + Add and + UPLOAD NEW FILE. Select your pdf and upload it.

Step 4: Click on Lead magnet & conversion booster: Opt-in in the LANDING PAGES section and replace the placeholder image for your lead magnet with your own image.

  • Hover over the image and click Change image.
  • Upload your image.
  • Click SAVE and PUBLISH.

Step 5: Customize the thank you pages in the LANDING PAGES section. 

  • Click on the name of each email in the system to edit the existing content.
  • When you are finished, click SAVE and PUBLISH.
  • Click the arrow to return to the system page.

Step 6: Customize the emails in the EMAILS (CONTACTS) section.

  • Click on the name of each email in the system to edit the existing content.
  • In the Lead Magnet & Conversion Booster: Lead Magnet Delivery email, edit the “download now” link with your lead magnet file.
    • Highlight “Download now,” and click on the link icon in the editor.
    • Under Ontraport Hosted File, click Select File, and locate your lead magnet file.
    • Click SELECT.

Step 7: Add your payment gateway to Ontraport, if you haven’t already done so.

  • Navigate to SalesSettingsGateways, then click +New Gateway.
  • Follow the instructions here for your specific integration.

Step 8: Add your products to the PRODUCTS section.

  • Click +Add and +New Product, or select products already in Ontraport.

You're ready to launch!

Tips
  • There is a dummy gateway set up already so you can test your order forms. Check out our pro tip at the end of this article for instructions on how to use it.
  • Charge location-based taxes automatically by setting up an integration with TaxJar.
  • You can customize the number of problems you want to address in this system by copying the trigger (and all following elements) for new problems or deleting entire strings of elements. Just make sure you add your video related to the problem to any new thank you pages you create.
