Your custom domain lets you use your business's name for email, Ontraport Pages and tracked email links. Before you connect it, decide what you want Ontraport to handle and where your main website will live. That choice determines how you set up hosting.
Custom domains are available on paid Ontraport accounts. If you're on a free trial, upgrade before adding one. You'll also need access to your domain provider, because Ontraport's setup uses an Entri pop-up to connect your domain. Have the person who manages your domain help if needed.
There are three services to consider. Sending email lets you use From addresses on your domain. Hosting pages connects your domain or a subdomain to pages and membership sites. Click tracking uses your domain for the intermediary redirects that record clicks in your emails. Choose the combination you actually need.
If Ontraport will host your primary website, connect the main domain for page hosting. If your website already lives elsewhere and will stay there, use a subdomain for your Ontraport pages. For example, members dot example dot com could host a membership site while your main website stays with its existing provider.
Open your profile menu, then Administration, Business Info, and Custom Domains. Click New custom domain and enter your domain. The Support Center links directly to this collection if you need help finding it.
To host your whole website on Ontraport, choose a combination that includes page hosting in What shall we configure? In Hosting, select Host entire website on Ontraport. Click Configure, then complete the Entri pop-up and sign in to your domain provider when prompted. Follow the settings shown for your domain rather than copying another account's DNS records.
If your main website will stay elsewhere, choose the documented email-and-page-hosting combination you need. In Hosting, select Host Ontraport Pages on a subdomain only, and enter your chosen Hosting subdomain. Then click Configure and complete Entri's steps. The article also describes email and click tracking as separate uses, so consult the current setup options when you don't need page hosting.
Setup can take up to forty-eight hours to go live. Check the Status column in Custom Domains. Success means the domain is set up. In progress means setup is still underway. For Needs configuration, open the domain, click Configure, and follow the instructions to update its settings.
Your account uses one default click tracking domain for outgoing emails. The first domain added with click tracking enabled becomes the default. To change it, select the tracking domain in Custom Domains and click Make default. The Default tracking domain column identifies the current choice.
To change hosting options, open the domain, update What shall we configure?, and click Configure. Follow any instructions about features already using that domain. Deleting is different: the confirmation warns that hosted pages will be unpublished. Deleting the domain from Ontraport also leaves its DNS records at your registrar, so don't use deletion as a casual troubleshooting step.
Choose the services you need, keep your main website in the right place, complete the provider connection, and check the status. The Support Center has the current instructions for your setup. Next up: Add the Ontraport tracking script to your site.
