When you publish an automation, Ontraport saves the previous version in version history so you can go back and look at how your campaigns were organized in the past.
This can be really useful for troubleshooting or figuring out what happened to a particular contact that went through the automation. Because the changes you made to your automations are date and time stamped, you can pinpoint exactly what’s gone down.
In this video, I'll show you where to go to access the version history for your automations.
First, go to your automation and click the clock icon in the top right-hand corner.
This will show you a list of every version of your automation and when each one was published.
To review an older version, simply click the one you want to look at.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll see this warning:
If you click the hyperlinked text, it will revert back to the live version of your automation.
Otherwise, what you’re seeing is a view of your automation back when it was published at the selected date and time. You’ll see all the differences in your automation elements and flow.
Now let’s take a look at an example.
Say you made a change to your sales email in your lead funnel and notice that people are converting less than they were before. Thanks to Ontraport's Performance Mode feature, this will be easy for you to spot! You can learn more about that in our “Performance Mode basics” video.
You might find that a previous version of one of your emails worked better for conversions. Or maybe you tried adding an extra day’s wait between steps, and it’s not working out.
With revision history, you can go back and see exactly what changed and when -- and compare your before and after results -- so you know how to move forward.
Once you’ve diagnosed the problem, just pull up the version of your automation that you want, make your changes and republish!
Note that the ‘bad’ version of your automation will also be saved in your version history. You can always look back on it to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes again!
Now that you know where to find Ontraport’s version history feature, you can bounce back to previous versions of your automations and continue to improve your marketing strategy.
