Once you have more than a few pages, you'll want to manage them as one website. An Ontraport Site lets you do that. You set things like your favicon, a custom 404 page, tracking code and your sitemap once, and they apply across the whole site. In this lesson, you'll create a site, add sitewide settings, and turn on membership if you need it. A site groups everything published to one domain. Your landing pages, a dynamic template for your blog, and a booking page for your service calls can all live in one site, where you can see them in one place. You still build and publish each page the same way. A page becomes part of a site when you publish it to that site's domain. You can publish a set of linked pages without a site, but then the only shared control is the global blocks you place on each page. Sites are available on all account levels. From the navigation bar, click Sites, then New site. On the General tab, give your site an internal name. Then add a site description. It's optional, but it helps new team members and AI tools quickly understand what the site is for. Under Hosting, choose your site's domain. Any page published to that domain becomes part of the site. If you use subdomains, you can include them all in this site, or create separate sites for them, like one for support. Next, add your favicon. That's the little icon in browser tabs, bookmarks and search results. Then choose your 404 error page, the page people see when they visit a link on your site that doesn't exist. Keep the default, or pick an Ontraport page, like one with a helpful offer or links to your most popular content. Click Save in the top right. Now every page published to your domain shows on the site's Pages tab, along with matching dynamic templates and booking pages. On the Advanced tab, the Sitewide code section has header, body and footer areas. Code you paste here applies to every page, dynamic template and booking page on the site. So you add your Google Analytics or other tracking code once, instead of on every page. You can also use it for a sitewide notice, like a holiday closure, or for tools like a privacy consent banner. Click Save to apply it. A sitemap lists the pages you want search engines to find. Also on the Advanced tab, turn on Automatically update sitemap, and your account adds new pages as you build, up to fifty thousand addresses. To include dynamic pages, add their page types in the sitemap settings. You can also paste in a sitemap of your own. Either way, Ontraport can't submit it to search engines for you, so let Google and Bing know each time you create or update it. If you want members-only pages, open the site's Membership tab and click Enable. Ontraport automatically creates the login page, registration and forgotten-password steps to match your site's branding. Then you set login redirects, automatic logout and whether anyone can register. Membership is available on some account levels, and the membership site lessons cover protecting pages and granting access. So: create a site for your domain, describe what it's for, then set your favicon, 404 page, sitewide code and sitemap once for every page. Add membership when you need it. Next up: publishing on WordPress.
