Learn how to set up a partner program in this article.
I know you’re a generous and thoughtful person, but you still may not want to give partners commissions on EVERY product you sell.
For example, there may be low margin products that you can’t afford to pay commissions on. Or maybe you’re just running a launch with some partners and only want to pay them on the product you’re launching.
Bottom line here is that in order for a partner to get commissions for a product, you’ll need to ADD the product to the program that the partner is a part of. If the product isn’t included in your partner’s program, no commissions will be created for that partner.
Keep in mind that you’ll need to have created a partner program before you can add products to it. So if you haven’t already, take a look at our “Create a Partner Program” video to get started on that.
I’ll walk you through how to set it up. You’ll:
Select your product
Choose the commission type and
Set up the commission values for your product.
Let’s jump right in!
First, Select a product.
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see the “Commissionable Products” collection.
Click “+New Partner Product” and then add a product from your product list.
Now, Set the commission type. This will either be a percentage of the product’s sale price or a flat rate, regardless of the sale price.
Finally, Set your commission amount.
You’ll see a “Level 1 Commission” field.
If you’re running a one-tier partner program, commissions are only earned when someone refers your product and that referral buys.
So this percentage is how much you’re going to pay to the person who referred a new customer to you. Maybe you’d like to pay them 15%; that’s what you’d type in.
You also need to set your “Level 2 Commission.” If you’re running a two-tier partner program, the original referrer can make another, usually smaller, commission whenever someone who they referred makes a referral that ends up in a sale.
But if you’re just using a one-tier program, you can set this amount to 0.
Now just repeat this process for each of your products. Voila!
Awesome, now you know how to add commissionable products to your partner program.
